Programs of Study / Career Clusters

Overview

The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 requires the Quad City CTE Consortium to develop approved career Programs of Study based on Career Clusters.  In response to the Perkins legislation, QCC TEC plans to develop Programs of Study using a three page document.  Each Program of Study will include;

Page 1 – Career Cluster Concept Page

Page 1 of a QCC TEC Program of Study uses the Career Cluster graphic included in the Partnership for College and Career Success grant guidelines.  This page identifies one of the 16 Career Clusters as the basic foundation for the Program of Study.  The graphic is used to identify a career pathway and description, alternative occupations, foundation knowledge and skills, and pathway knowledge and skills.

Page 2 of a QCC TEC Program of Study was developed by the consortium to establish a link between a CTE sequence of courses to the Career Cluster knowledge and skills.  In addition, the quality indicators listed for each CTE course provides CTE instructors the opportunity to identify program improvement needs.  Under the 2006 Perkins legislation, Title I Perkins CTE and Title II Tech Prep (PCCS) focus on Program Improvement in CTE.

Page 3 – Career Cluster Plan of Study / Career Pathway Page

Page 3 of a QCC TEC Program of Study uses the Plan of Study / Career Pathway page developed by Career Clusters to connect secondary CTE to postsecondary CTE and training opportunities.  By identifying the predominant pathway for a career entry point, PCCS partners can use this page to identify opportunities to integrate academics, improve articulation, and provide students dual enrollment / dual credit opportunities.  Examples for plans of study, as well as blank pages to develop local plans of study, are available at the website www.careerclusters.org.
