Nursing Cluster

PREPARATION  LEVEL  COURSES

 

 H300  EXTENDED  CAMPUS  HEALTH  OCCUPATIONS  (ECHO)  I  (ACC)

 

Course length: 1 year

Course credit: 2.5

Grade level: 11, 12

 

This course includes affective, cognitive, and psychomotor skills which are common to most health occupations.  Basic nursing and health care skills are developed at this level.  The units of instruction, activities, and skills will be planned concurrently.  these units may include;

            Employability skills

            Health care systems and resources

            Ethics and legal aspects

            Patient care skills

            Functioning as a member of the health care team

            Alzheimer and related dementias

The nurse assistant skills will be offered at this level.  This course is certified by the Illinois Department of Public Health.  Student performance will be learned and practiced in the classroom and laboratory and supervised closely by qualified health occupations teachers in a facility through extended campus or cooperative education.  Both extended campus and cooperative education require written agreements between educational facilities and health care providers to determine the responsibilities of each agency.  A student must maintain a C average to continue in the program.

H301  BASIC  NURSE  ASSISTANT  TRAINING  PROGRAM

 

Course length: 1 year

Course credit: 1.5

Grade level: 11, 12

 

This course provides the nurse assistant with knowledge, understanding, and skills to function as a responsible member of the health care team.  Students combine theory and practical applications to various health care situations.  Additional emphasis has been incorporated regarding the aging process, problems of the aged, and death and dying.  This course may be offered off-campus at Black Hawk East College and offer dual enrollment / dual credit options for students.

H400  EXTENDED  CAMPUS  HEALTH  OCCUPATIONS  (ECHO)  II  (ACC)

 

Course length: 1 year

Course credit: 2.5

Grade level: 12

 

This course includes skills to prepare the student for a specific health occupation or cluster of closely related occupations.  ECHO II allows instruction in multiple health occupations at the secondary level.  Within the health occupations clusters, such as nursing, exists the potential for employment following secondary level instruction.  A multi-cluster approach may be utilized to fulfill the needs of students with varying interests and abilities.  An agreement of learning experiences between the instructor of the program and the instructor of the specific health occupation at the extended campus site will be developed through the development of a training plan using the classroom, laboratory. and clinical are under the supervision of a qualified health occupations instructor.

H401  HEALTH  OCCUPATIONS  COOPERATIVE  EDUCATION

 

Course length: 1 year

Grade level: 11, 12

 

Health Occupations Cooperative Education is designed for junior and / or senior students interested in pursuing careers in health occupations.  Students are released from school for their paid cooperative education work experience and participate in 200 minutes per week of related classroom instruction.  Classroom instruction focuses on providing students with job survival skills, career exploration skills related to the job, and improving students’ abilities to interact positively with others.  For skills related to the job, refer to the skill development course outlines and the task list of the desired occupational program.  The cooperative education coordinator is responsible for supervision.  Written training agreements and individual student training plans are developed and agreed upon by the employer, student, and coordinator.  The coordinator, student, and employer assume compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.  The course content includes the following broad areas of emphasis; further career education opportunities, planning for the future, job – seeking skills, personal development, human relationships, legal protection and responsibilities, economics and the job, organizations, and job termination.  Classroom instruction is based on the tasks in an occupational cluster.

Z401  INTERRELATED  COOPERATIVE  EDUCATION       

 

Course length: 1 year

Grade level: 11, 12

 

Interrelated Cooperative Education is designed for junior and/or senior students interested in pursuing careers in vocational occupations.  Students are released from school for their paid cooperative education work experience and participate in 200 minutes per week of related classroom instruction.  Classroom instruction focuses on providing students with job survival skills and career exploration skills related to the job and improving student’s abilities to interact positively with others.  For skills related to the job, refer to the skill development course outlines and the task list of the desired occupational program.

 

A qualified vocational cooperative coordinator is responsible for supervision.  Written training agreements and individual student training plans are developed and agreed upon by the employer, student and coordinator.  Occupational task lists form the basis for training plans.  The coordinator, student and employer assume compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.

 

The course content includes the following broad areas of emphasis: further career education opportunities, planning for the future, job-seeking skills, personal development, human relationships, legal protection and responsibilities, economics and the job, organization and job termination.  In addition, classroom instruction includes technical skills as identified on occupational task lists.
